Nobody's saying it's the end of the world or the ultimate evil here. No, it won't destroy your life even if they sell your information to people. It's a matter of principle.
You're right that when you put information on the internet, it usually cannot be deleted.

Which is why those of us who like our privacy don't put information we don't want on the internet, or don't use facebook! That's all there is to it.

As for examples of why having your info out there *can* be bad, just one off the top of my head: employers scan the facebook of potential employees, and can refuse to hire them just because they had a drunken picture or something similar. That happened in the past.

But facebook is the internet, the internet is not only facebook, everywhere u go on the internet and everything u do is saved somewhere :roll:

and whatever when I will use the words employee and employer for real will be in like 10years, then facebook will allready be history. Times change. Let's first try to survive this mad world and not cry about what is on the internet.
