Let's end this once and for all - Nihilism - 01-18-2013 08:44

Finally got THPS3 working again, and I can even record in a pretty decent quality without lagging.
So I had an idea: Let's make instructional videos.
Wouldn't you all wish to not answer all these questions people ask you, or even more than that, have videos that answers EVERY question people ask, and explain it furthermore?
My idea was, that 3 people who are good in a specific game type (for example, I'd take me, Czy9k and Soc for TA) to make an instructional video on TA.
What I'd put there, is the importance of bouncing, TA types (DAO, 251x stop etc.), how to get hige base, AK off information, and you know the rest.
We could do this for many gametypes, like CTF, CZ, KOTH, Graffiti...
We could show transfers, where all the zones are, bla bla bla you get the point Original
I believe this will help the THPS3 community by a ton.
What do you say? Any volunteers?

Edit:
Lyst sticked this, so I thought I might aswell make this more specific:
THPS3 is my favourite game of all the THPS series. It always had some unique feeling to it, and I've spent many hours of gameplay with great people.
What sucks is, many great people I met were first noobs, which had NO idea how to play properly, and that made them turn away from the community since most good people are in the closed pro-community.
I feel like something should be done in order to fix it and expand this fine community!
My idea was to make some sort of 'tutorial' for fresh new players, and even for older players who lack insight in this game.
I will explain:
I, Nihilism, dearly love TA. It's my favourite gametype in this game, but I only play legit.
By that I mean: I land at x251, I don't DAO and I pretty much don't abuse glitches in order to get a high score.
What I would do, is take 2 more TA players to help me create a TA video which explains all aspecs of TA:
Why using DAO makes your score unlegit, how to use dao, why to land at 251, what is 251 patch, explain how to get a big base (1080 HSLO HSLO), explain which tricks gives the most points (most people have never heard of Panhandling for example), why hexing panhandling into a CAS is also considered an abuse since it involves hexing the game for it, what is Defmod...
Well I think you got the point.
On top of that, we could make a basic video which will explain bouncing, shuffling, revert (such as if you do 3 full reverts you will eventually be stuck), the importancy of spin keys...
I don't think I should explain furthemore since I believe that if you read this whole post you understood my point.
Please, let's help this game and help the new\er players be able to play with us!
What do you say? I will appreciate every help!

I have thought about this once, but then came to the conclusion that it is important to stimulate the creativity of the player and therefore let people find stuff themselves rather than doing some tutorials. I don't know any top player that has become good by following tutorials, all of them are self taught, which also makes them less predictable.

I totally agree, but there are some basics stuff we can gg through that can do no harm.
I'm not saying we should cap our lines, because each to his own.
But we can show TF's for example, and let people create their own ideas Original

Well, It's nice, but I'm planning on something diffferent.
What I meant was make a video for each gametype, not longer than 5-7 minutes, which will specify all the elements of the game.

I'm still a bit rusty man, my balance skills are down the crapper Tongue

Re: Let's end this once and for all - Lyst - 01-18-2013 12:50

It's bullshit that the only legit TA is 251 stop without DAO. This tutorial has to be neutral, else I'll unsticky it. I'm not stickying topics to let you force your opinion on others.
